Salt Run & Lighthouse Park seawall repair planning
Prepare a Salt Run seawall or dock project with channel records, shallow-water access checks, Lighthouse Park references and local permit steps.

Salt Run combines residential shorelines, moorings, public access and a maintained navigation channel. The City describes the mooring area as shallower water with limited shore-side amenities. A contractor therefore needs more than frontage length: the proposed equipment route, draft and working tides belong in the first discussion.

Confirm access without assuming a channel depth
The City announced channel maintenance in September 2025 between the Lighthouse Park Boat Ramp and the mouth of Salt Run. That announcement describes a particular dredging project, not a guarantee of depth at every private dock. Have the contractor check the current approach and explain what water levels their equipment needs. Salt Run channel maintenance, September 30, 2025
Separate three footprints on the drawing: the seawall, the dock or lift, and the access required to construct them. A wall repair does not automatically authorize dredging beside a dock. Ask the permitting agencies to evaluate any additional work explicitly.
Use local shoreline work as a question list
The completed Inlet Drive project combined a retaining wall, riprap, stormwater improvements and a tide check valve. Its value to an owner is the coordinated approach. It does not establish that the same material or arrangement will suit another Salt Run parcel. Inlet Drive Shoreline Resiliency Inlet Drive Shoreline Resiliency
- Ask which underwater observations are needed and who will perform them.
- Show where temporary anchors, turbidity controls and equipment would sit.
- Have the contractor explain how neighboring vessels and moorings stay accessible.
- Request a restoration plan for the bank, landscaping and any staging surface.
Keep navigation permissions separate from property access. A nearby public ramp is a geographic reference, not permission to launch commercial construction equipment, store materials or use another owner’s dock.

What could the work cost?
Price marine mobilization, depth or access verification, dock conflicts and habitat protection as explicit items. A low quote that assumes unrestricted barge access may omit the factor that determines the construction sequence.
Start with a published planning range, then refine it with a written price for your St. Augustine property.

| Starting point | What to resolve | Prepare and look up |
|---|---|---|
City of St. Augustine Planning & Building | Confirm the parcel jurisdiction, building review and any right-of-way or drainage approvals. | Provide the parcel ID, survey, photos and proposed work. 904-825-1065. |
Florida DEP / water management district | Confirm the environmental resource, wetland and submerged-land review for the complete shoreline scope. | Show existing and proposed alignment, habitat, access and disposal; request a written permit or exemption determination. |
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers | Ask whether the work needs federal authorization for structures or fill in jurisdictional waters. | Submit the same current drawings used for state review; keep each written determination in the project file. |
Build the access plan first
Give bidders the same access constraints so differences in price reflect a real scope.
Name the channel record
Use the City’s Salt Run maintenance notice to request the latest project or sounding information relevant to your approach. Do not rely on a dated announcement as a navigation chart.
Map the dock and wall separately
Photograph piles, connections and the wall from safe positions. Mark lifts and utilities that may obstruct equipment or need a separate qualified trade.
Ask for the combined shoreline detail
For an Inlet Drive interface, request the completed public work record. Have the designer reconcile drainage, returns and the private frontage on one plan.

Salt Run & Lighthouse Park project questions
Does channel dredging guarantee barge access to my property?
No. Public maintenance covers a specified channel. The contractor must establish the equipment route and current conditions at your frontage before pricing water-based access.
